Michael you will be missed.

RIP distant cousin.

Doug Maurer

This started an immediate outpouring of grief about our loss of Michael. He was extremely active on the list and most helpful to anyone whose families might have even the smallest tie to the families he has researched. And, it almost seems that he was related to most of Darke County so he was able to help a whole lot of people. We are currently collecting comments and memories to present on this page. Over the years, there were others, not on the list, who contacted Michael via phone, US mail, email, and visits. From the comments left by others in his guestbook at Newcomer Funeral Home, many who signed had never met Michael in person but all found him to be a very special person.

Many of us we able to meet Michael through the annual List gatherings that we held in Greenville between 2000 & 2009. Here are Michael and Richard Martin.Others of us traveled clear across the country to meet Michael. This is Michael and Wally in a very happy moment.

Michael's obituary
Michael O. Reck, age 61 of Dayton, passed away January 18, 2014. He was born March 20, 1952 in Houston, TX to the late Curtis Reck and Dorothy Bohannon. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his aunt, Mildred Howard; and uncle, Joseph Simons; and brothers: Gary and Daniel Reck.

Mike is survived by his wife, Donna Reck; daughter and son-in-law: Jessica and Jamie Thomas; granddaughter, Abigail Thomas; many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mike’s memory to The Hospice of Dayton.

Posthumously, Michael has accomplished two last deeds for the list. 1) The list is once again active after a long winter lull; and 2) he has brought his dear friend Wally to the forefront and Wally is once again helping people as we know he loves to do. Michael Reck, Gale Honeyman, and Wally Garchow are all three very knowledgeable Darke County researchers. Now, Wally and Gale will have to carry the torch without Michael.
