This publication is the first of its kind since 1914. First
Family and Pioneer Members, Military, Pioneer and other
list are presented first in this book. Next, there is a grouping of some of the
notable people of Darke County. The families in this book are presented in
alphabetical order as much as possible, at least by the first lettter. When
possible, the oldest family is presented first, then the son, grandsons, et
cetera. If a submitter has several short families that tie together, these are
presented with the main family, regardless of alphabetical order. There are over
700 biographical sketches many of which have detailed information with dates and
places. Many of the ancestries go back into Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland,
New York, New England, and even into Europe. Family information presented in
this book is for clues in doing your own genealogy. Proof for verification
should be directed to the submitter who's name and address are at the bottom of
each sketch.

Bosserman, Sr. The 1820 census includes the name of the head of household;
number of males per household; number of females per household; foreigners not naturalized;
number of persons engaged in: Agriculture, Commerce and Manufacture; free
colored persons, male and female; all other persons. The 1830 Census includes
the name of head of household; number of males per household; number of females
per household; number of male and female blacks are listed on separate
index.

Microfilm Role No. M-674 by Rose Shilt and Anita Short C.G. The copyright of
1978 was transferred from the Ohio Genealogical Society to the Darke County
Genealogical Society. This is the third printing in 1993 for the Darke County
Genealogical Society.

Darke County, Ohio Marriages 1851-1898

This was the first project ever done by the Darke County Genealogical Society.
Great care was taken in transcribing the material. If the entry was
questionable, other Darke County sources were consulted. However, if the entry
could not be verified elsewhere, it was transcribed as written. The list of
those who performed the marriages was taken from county and village histories,
ministers' license books, marriage books and election returns. Those of early
Justice of the Pease listed in the Darke County, Ohio, Common Pleas Court
Records, 1817-1860 by Anita Short are not repeated in this work. Information
contained in the book is name of groom in alphabetical order, name of bride,
date of marriage and person performing wedding. There is also a brides index and
a Darke County ministers, mayors and J.P. index.

As the microfilming was being done, a record was kept of the estates that were missing and are noted in this book. This book also includes a list of unnumbered estates. A few estates were found late in the microfilming and appear on the first page.
