Ullom Family Bible
As a
youngster I remember this Bible sitting on the left top of an upright
piano in the back room of my grandparents house. On the right side of the
piano was a large Webster dictionary. When my grandparents moved I never
seen the Bible or dictionary again until my grandfather's estate
sale.
While
sorting things out for the sale, in an old wood house was two wooden boxes
full of old books. Most of the books had been wet at some time and were
crumbling apart. They also had mice living in them. My Dad and I sorted
out a half dozen books that could be salvaged. This Bible was one of them.
As things happened I never seen these book again until several years later
when I started doing genealogy.
While
looking though some family group sheets at a local genealogy library, I
came across some information in which the source was listed as a Bible
that my grandfather had. I called my mother to find out where this Bible
was. She said she could not remember a Bible at all and if there was one
it must have sold in my grandfather's estate sale. A couple of weeks went
by and I got a phone call from my mother. She had found the Bible and the
other books that my Dad and I had sorted in her attic.
Today the
Bible and other books are in my possession for safe keeping. Some of the
records in this Bible are the only ones that exist. Below is the Bible and
its records.

The
birth records start with John, born September 13, 1826 and then
Martha, born July 23, 1828. Next is John and Martha's four children:
Samuel H., Mahala M., Albertes and Mary Elizabeth.
The
next three birth's are the children of John and Susan: Jonathan,
Martin V. Otwell and Margaret Adbell. The date change for the
marriage of John and Susan is to compensate for the birth of
Jonathan. |

There are only two deaths recorded in this Bible. First is Martha
Ullom, the first wife of John. She died March 25, 1865 and is
buried in the Harter Cemetery north of New Madison, Ohio.
